Field Hockey Announces Addition Of Five For 2014 Season

Feb. 6, 2014

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey program and head coach Carla Tagliente announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Thursday, Feb. 6. The talented group features student-athletes from three countries, including the United States, Belgium and The Netherlands, who have combined to compete at the highest levels, nationally and internationally.

Anne Dijkstra (Huizen, The Netherlands) spent the previous five years competing in the top league within The Netherlands while Grace Horgan (Centreville, Va.) led Westfield High School to one Virginia state title, two regionals championships and a trio of district crowns. Melanie Kreusch (Brussels, Belgium) has competed with the Belgium National Program since 2010 and Nicole Kuerzi (Wall Township, N.J.) finished her scholastic career at Wall High School with 149 points on 61 goals and 27 assists. To cap the quintet, Mirra Stillman (Paradise, Calif.) earned the EAL Offensive Player of the Year Award while competing for Chico High School in 2013.

"We are very excited to welcome our 2014 incoming class," Tagliente said. "All five young women have demonstrated success on the field and in the classroom. Additionally, all five share a passion for the game and for this school. UMass is a special place. I am excited about what we have done here over the course of the past few years, but more importantly, I am excited about where we are going. These five believe in our vision and will help raise the standard of excellence."

Carla Tagliente, who enters her fourth season as the head coach at UMass, signed five student-athletes to NLIs for 2014.
